Content and Intellectual Property Policy

Copyright in your content belongs to you

Everything you create on yazar.io (your books, characters, locations, organizations, lore, family tree, notes, timeline entries, and any images you upload) remains your copyright and intellectual property, fully and exclusively. This is true before and after you use yazar.io; creating an account never transfers or limits these rights in any way.

yazar.io never becomes the owner of your work

yazar.io never acquires the right to publish, commercialize, or create derivative works from your content. All the platform needs, to provide the service to you, is to store, display, and (at your request) export your content - see "The limited technical license you grant the platform" in the Terms of Use.

Your content is not used to train AI

In yazar.io's current architecture, no component processes your user content or sends it into an AI/large-language-model training pipeline. Your books, characters, or notes are never part of an AI training dataset.

Your content is not sent to analytics

Only structural, anonymous events are sent to our product analytics system (PostHog) - e.g. "a character was created." A character's name, a book's title, a note's text, or any part of your actual body content is never transmitted to the analytics system. This is a permanent design decision about how the system is built, not just a promise.

Your right to export

Your content is yours, so you should always be able to take it with you. You can export any of your books (except the Sample Book) as Markdown (a .zip file compatible with tools like Obsidian or Notion) or JSON.

Infringement notice process

If you believe content on the platform infringes your (or someone else's) intellectual property rights, you can notify us at support@yazar.io with your claim, the location (URL) of the content, and your contact information.

Your responsibility for content that infringes third-party rights

You are responsible for ensuring that content you upload or create on yazar.io does not infringe another person's copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights. If we receive a valid notice of such an infringement, we may restrict access to the content in question (see the Terms of Use).

The difference between your Author Card, the Shareable Wiki, and private book content

The content of your books (characters, lore, notes, etc.) is COMPLETELY PRIVATE by default - visible only to you, enforced at the database level. The one exception is the system "Sample Book," which is visible to everyone but is demo content, not your own work.

Your Author Card (your @username page) is a separate profile page that becomes public when you choose to publish it. It shows only the information you choose to include (your display name, a short title, your social links, a list of your books) - the actual content of your books (your characters, your lore) is NEVER shown on your Author Card.

Separate from these, there's an optional third surface: the Shareable Wiki - when you turn it on for a specific book, it shows that book's actual content. See the next section for details.

About the Shareable Wiki

The Shareable Wiki lets you publish a book at yazar.io/@username/book-slug as a public, read-only page. It's OFF by default - a single switch in Book Settings, and none of your books are shown this way unless you explicitly turn it on.

When it's on, the Characters, Locations, Organizations, Lore, Races, Creatures, Items, Spells, Religions, and Glossary sections (whichever you have) become public; your Notes are never included, and the Family Tree and Timeline aren't included yet either. Scope is per book (you can't pick individual sections or entities) - a book is either fully public or fully private.

Visitors can only read the content - no account is required to view it, but they can't edit it, comment on it, or claim it as their own. Your copyright and all rights to the content remain entirely yours (see "Copyright in your content belongs to you" above).

You can turn it off at any time; once you do, the page becomes inaccessible on yazar.io immediately. However, if a page was indexed or cached by a search engine while it was public, those copies aren't under our direct control and may not disappear immediately when you turn it off.
