• What is worldbuilding?

  Worldbuilding is the process of designing the universe a work of fiction takes place in (its geography, history, societies, rules, and characters) as a consistent, believable whole. It's a core craft skill for novels, fantasy/sci-fi, and any long-running fictional series.

• What is lore?

  Lore is the body of information that defines a fictional world's history, rules (magic system, technology, religion, politics, and so on), and background. It describes how the world your characters live in works, not who the characters themselves are.

• What is POV (point of view)?

  POV (point of view) determines whose eyes a scene or chapter is told through, and in what narrative person (first or third person, for example). A novel can have a single POV character, or multiple POV characters that alternate chapter by chapter.

  Canon is the body of events and information an author treats as officially valid within a fictional universe. Once a detail is canon, later chapters or books are expected not to contradict it.
