In yazar.io, every entity (characters, locations, organizations, and more) can go beyond its ready-made profile with up to 20 custom fields of your own. For a given type in a book, you can save the field set you use most as a Field Template and have it show up automatically on new records.
What is a custom field, and how do you add one?
Built-in profile fields (name, summary, and so on) may not cover every entity type; you can add a field specific to your own needs, like 'eye color' for a character, 'ruler' for a location, or 'origin' for an item. These fields show up alongside the others in the entity's profile, with a limit of 20 fields per entity.
What does a Field Template do?
Instead of manually re-adding the same custom field set for every new record of a type (say, Characters), you can save the field set a book uses for a given type as a Field Template; creating a new record of that type then brings those fields in ready-made, and you can still edit them from there.
Are custom field values kept secure?
Field labels (like 'eye color') stay plaintext, since they're needed for search and autofill; but field VALUES (like 'green') are stored encrypted in the database with AES-256-GCM, the same as other entity content, with the keys that unlock it kept separately from the database.
Is there a limit on how many custom fields I can add?
Yes, up to 20 custom fields per entity.
If I change a Field Template, do existing records get updated too?
No; the template only brings its field set to NEWLY created records, it doesn't retroactively change the fields of existing records.
Can I share custom fields across different entity types?
No; each Field Template is defined for one book and one entity type, and isn't shared across types.
