How to Organize Character Images and References
When you write a character you rarely have just one image: an outfit reference, a face sketch, a photo of a place that inspired you. Once these are scattered across a phone gallery, folders, and browser tabs, the character's look drifts too. This guide describes a simple way to keep reference images with the record itself.
Why should reference images live next to the record?
When images are loose files searched by filename, 'which character wore this outfit?' turns into a search every time. Once you attach the image to the character's own page, you see the profile, relationships, and body text on the same page; every appearance decision (eye color, a scar, an outfit) is checked in one place.
Step by step: add and order your images
1) Open the page of a character (or a location, an item, any record). 2) Tap the '+' tile in the image area and select several images at once. 3) The first image becomes the main image, shown on cards and in lists. 4) To change the order, tap 'Manage Images' and drag the images; the one you move to the top becomes the new main image.
Adjust the crop of each image
With 'Adjust Image' you set an image's focal point by dragging and zooming. The file itself doesn't change, only which part of the image shows on cards and the detail page. The crop is per image, so the same character's portrait and full-body image can keep different crops.
Limits and sharing
There is no separate per-record image count limit; the limit is the total image storage of your plan (50 MB on the free plan, 2 GB on Yazar Pro). Uploaded images are optimized automatically. If you publish your book as a Shareable Wiki, the gallery images are shown to visitors too; clicking an image opens it full screen and you can browse with the arrows.
Can I add reference images from the mobile app too?
Yes, the iPhone and iPad app has the same edit screen: you can select several images, change their order, and adjust their crop.
What happens if I delete the main image?
The next image in the order automatically becomes the main image, so the card never ends up image-less.
What shows on the card if I add no image at all?
Character cards show a placeholder based on the gender field, other records show a placeholder based on their type. Glossary entries appear without an image, as text only.
