What you need to track in YA
Characters' ages and school years, who is friends, rivals or dating, family ties and the secrets each character carries. This changes from chapter to chapter; a character acting as if they don't know something they learned in the previous book is a mistake readers spot immediately.
Characters, groups and families
In the Characters section each character has their own page; you can add your own fields (for example 'Year' or 'Secret'). Keep friend groups, clubs or teams in Organizations and link characters to them, and a group's page shows its members automatically. Family ties are built with drag and drop in the Family Tree.
School, places and the order of events
Keep the school, the neighborhood and the places your characters meet in Locations. Showing the year's events, fights and confessions in order in the Timeline makes it easier to keep the chronology straight, especially when writing from multiple points of view.
Start with the Young Adult genre
When you create a book in yazar.io, you can choose the Young Adult genre and a subgenre such as Young Adult, New Adult, School or College. Sections suited to the genre (Characters, Locations, Organizations, Lore, Items, Glossary, Family Tree, Notes and Timeline) open automatically; hide the ones you don't use.
How do I track character relationships?
Link characters to organizations and to each other in the Family Tree, and mention other characters with @Name in their descriptions. Those links appear on the other pages automatically.
I'm writing a series, will this help?
