Worldbuilding Software for Series Writers
The real challenge when writing a series is not contradicting a detail you set up in book one by the time you reach book three. In yazar.io, each book is its own independent workspace - that keeps each book from turning into a mess on its own, but it also means carrying information between books is currently a manual step. This page describes that honestly.
What gets harder when writing a series?
Tracking characters, locations, and relationships can already get hard within a single book; a series adds the question of 'which book did I establish this detail in.' Writing a character's age or a location's whereabouts in book two in a way that contradicts book one is a mistake attentive readers catch immediately.
In yazar.io, each book is its own workspace
When you create a book, that book's characters, locations, organizations, and lore belong only to that book - they aren't automatically shared with or visible from another book. That design choice keeps each individual book from becoming a mess, but it's a real limit series writers should know about: there's no automatic sync between books today.
How do you carry information into the next book?
In practice, there are two workarounds: export the previous book as Markdown or JSON from Book Settings and keep it open as a reference while writing the new one, or recreate the character/location records you need (with the same details) in the new book. Either way, this step is currently manual.
Are all the books in a series automatically linked together?
No - each book is a separate, independent workspace, there's no automatic linking or sharing between books today.
How do I reuse a character from a previous book in a new one?
You need to recreate that character's record in the new book - exporting the previous book and keeping it open as a reference can make that easier.
Will this limitation change in the future?
There's no firm commitment either way for now - this page describes the product's ACTUAL behavior today, it doesn't promise a future feature.
