Best Tools for Sharing Book Quotes
Sharing a great line from your book on Instagram, X or Pinterest is one of the easiest ways to give readers a taste of your world. But there's a big difference between a plain screenshot and a carefully made quote image. This list compares four common ways writers create quote images.
How we compared them
We looked at three things: (1) how quickly you can make an image, (2) how easily it adapts to each platform's sizes (square, portrait post, story, landscape), (3) whether you can find and edit your quotes again later. Prices change over time, so we don't quote numbers.
1. Screenshots
The fastest route: open the text in a document or notes app and take a screenshot. But the result looks plain and often careless, the size isn't adjusted for the platform, and your quotes don't collect anywhere in an organized way.
2. Built-in social media editors
With the text tools in story and post editors you can write a quote over a background. It's quick and already fits the platform's size. But design options are limited, you start from scratch each time, and you have to remake the same quote separately for another platform.
3. General design tools (like Canva)
With lots of templates, fonts and images you can design almost anything. It's powerful and flexible. In return, every quote is a separate design file with no connection to your book, and you have to build the template yourself for a consistent look.
4. yazar.io Quotes
In the Quotes section of yazar.io you write your quote and its attribution, then pick one of the Cinematic, Parchment, Night or Minimal templates. You can download the same quote as a PNG in square, portrait post, story and landscape sizes, and optionally add your own background image and adjust its framing. Color, font and text size can be changed too. Your quotes collect inside your book so you can come back and edit them. On the free plan a small yazar.io logo sits in the card's corner; Yazar Pro can remove it. In return it's less free-form than a general design tool; the layout follows the template.
What sizes can quote images be downloaded in?
yazar.io has four sizes: square (1:1), portrait post (4:5), story (9:16) and landscape (16:9). All download as PNG.
Are my quotes visible to readers?
No. Quotes are visible only to you and aren't included in the Shareable Wiki; only the image you download and share reaches others.
Can I make quote images on my phone?
Yes. Quotes are available in the yazar.io mobile app too, so you can share the image straight from your phone.
