Dark Academia Writing Software
Dark academia is a genre built on old schools, closed student circles, secret societies, an obsessive hunger for knowledge and often a crime. Hidden ties between characters, secrets and the school's own rules sit at the heart of the story. yazar.io helps you keep this tangled web organized and consistent.
What the genre needs you to track
A small, closed cast, shifting loyalties among them, the secret everyone is keeping, the school's old traditions, and often who committed a crime and when. When one of these details slips, the tension collapses; in mysteries especially, who knew what and when is critical.
Students, societies and secrets
Keep characters on their own pages with custom fields you can add, like 'Department', 'Secret' or 'Owes a Debt To'. Record secret societies, clubs and faculties in the Organizations section and link characters to them, and a society's page shows its members automatically. Build family ties in the Family Tree.
The school, its traditions and the order of events
Keep the library, dorms and the school's hidden corners in Locations, and the school's rules and old traditions in Lore. Showing the crime and what follows in order in the Timeline keeps the chronology straight, even with flashback-heavy storytelling.
Start with the Dark Academia genre
When you create a book in yazar.io you can choose Dark Academia as the genre and pick a subgenre such as Gothic Academia, University, Boarding School, Mystery, Occult or Psychological Dark Academia. Sections suited to the genre (Characters, Locations, Organizations, Lore, Items, Glossary, Family Tree, Notes and Timeline) open automatically.
How do I track who knew what and when?
Keep events in order in the Timeline, and in your notes link which characters a secret was revealed to with @Name; linked notes show up on the character's page too.
Is dark academia a subgenre or its own genre?
In yazar.io it's its own genre with its own subgenres; it can blend with mystery, fantasy or romance.
Do I write my novel in yazar.io?
No. yazar.io is for building your world; you keep writing the manuscript in the tool you're used to, like Word or Google Docs.
