In VVD you create a world; in yazar.io you create a book, a small-sounding difference that shapes each product's whole approach. In yazar.io, a book brings together Characters, Locations, Organizations, Lore and World Rules, Races, Creatures, Items, Spells, Religions, Notes, Glossary, Event Flow, and a Family Tree: instead of starting from a blank canvas, you start with an information structure built for writing fiction.

How do you build a connected fictional world?

It's not enough for characters and locations to just sit on separate pages. In yazar.io you can link records together and reference other world records with @: you can track which other records a character appears in, and who or what they're related to, all in the same system. This becomes especially important in long-form novels with hundreds of world details.

How do you publish your world as a wiki?

The information in yazar.io doesn't have to stay only in your workspace; you can publish your book's world as a Wiki and let readers explore its characters, locations, and other world records. This is included in the free Writer plan; on VVD, public publishing requires the Pro plan. The Author Card also lets you build your own writer profile, showing your books and social accounts in the same place; that writer-to-books-to-social-to-Wiki chain in one profile is an advantage VVD doesn't have a direct equivalent for.

Your creative content is also stored encrypted in the database (AES-256-GCM); the keys that unlock it are kept separately, protected by Google Cloud KMS.

Where is VVD stronger?

VVD's visual worldbuilding tools are more extensive; if an interactive map, canvas, relationship trees, and graphs matter to you, VVD has the edge. VVD's Auto-Linking makes it easy to turn names in your text into links; yazar.io, alongside that, tracks relationships between characters, locations, organizations, and other structured world records through two-way Automatic Linked Pages (you can also add a manual link via @Name in text when you want to). yazar.io currently has no general-purpose canvas or interactive map system; in exchange, it offers a less complex, more direct workspace for a novelist who doesn't need those tools.

Where do the free plans and public publishing differ?

As of VVD's current official pricing, the Free plan ($0 forever) offers basic tools with 1 world, 20 documents, and 100 MB of storage; there's no public publishing and no private share links on this plan. Hobbyist ($69/year) raises that to 2 worlds, unlimited documents, and 1 GB of storage, adding full tools access and private share links, but public publishing is still not available. Public publishing only unlocks on the Pro plan ($129/year), which also adds unlimited worlds, unlimited media, a custom domain, 3 collaborators, and API access.

yazar.io's permanently free Writer plan is capped at 2 books and 15 records per entity type, but none of Glossary, Event Flow, Notes, Family Tree, Wiki, or Author Card requires upgrading to a higher tier. You don't need to upgrade to a paid plan to publish your fictional world as a Wiki in yazar.io; on VVD, public publishing is part of the Pro plan.
